Pickens County schools will be closed on Friday (February 21, 2020) due to icy roads.

Update (9:45 a.m.): SDPC has given clearance for schools to continue after-school activities. The status of individual events will be communicated by each school.

Students will make up the day by participating in a Digital Learning Day.

Digital Learning Days allow students to make up days missed to inclement weather or other emergencies by completing a set of assignments within 5 school days (Feb. 28). For students in grades 4-12, most or all of these assignments can be completed on the student's school-issued Chromebook. In Pre-K through 3rd grade, teachers will give students a folder of assignments to complete (if folders were not sent home on Thursday, they will be given to students on Monday, and be due on March 2). Your child's teacher will communicate the details of the assignments for your child's class. Students who do not complete their assignments will be counted as absent for the day.

More information about Digital Learning Days is available here.

Temperatures in the 20's are expected to follow this afternoon's rain, sleet and snow. Black ice on roads throughout the county is a serious concern tomorrow morning. The ice is expected to remain in place too long for a two-hour delay to be effective, but may melt in time for after-school activities to continue.
